You've likely heard of RuneScape, but did you know it attracts two million monthly active users and has countless thousands of subscribers?First started by developer Jagex 16 years ago from January 2001, RuneScape has since split into two games: Old School -- where gamers can enjoy the classic gameplay -- as well as the new RuneScape, in which players get regular new upgrades buy RuneScape gold to the title.

In reality, RuneScape has been growing for the last 3 years in terms of players and revenues. The game could be set to receive another shot in the arm with the announcement that Jagex is rolling out the longstanding title to mobile platforms.

Old School RuneScape will hit the program shops first this winter, while RuneScape is expected to follow early 2018. Both games will also be cross-platform -- meaning consumers may play their PC counterparts and load up the exact same figures and continue where they left off. It's unclear whether the matches will each get a simultaneous roll out on the App Store and Google Play, although Jagex is in discussions with Apple and Google in regards to the matter.

While the move to cellular could open RuneScape to a new generation of gamers, Jagex is targeting its current user base and those gamers that have since churned from the game.Speaking to PocketGamer.biz, Jagex Senior Product Director Neil McClarty says though its user RS gold base is enthusiastic and extremely invested in the game, many players are getting older. With that, he explains, comes time stresses on sport time because of other commitments like work and family.

So the studio set about searching for ways to let users play with the game on the move, and mobile was the ideal fit. "For us it was actually born from this, and so the cross platform element was critical," says McClarty. "We did not want it to be a game that is new since it's about looking after our present players, allowing them to have the ability to play the game they're playing, together with the characters they have spent .

"The secondary component is we hope that there will possibly be some ex-players who have left because they have not been able to play on PC, and perhaps today if it's available to play mobile, they will have 10 minutes while they're on the bus to work."

McClarty states Jagex has been wiki RuneScape laying the bases for RuneScape on mobile for a long time, together with work on the technology side over the previous two years also simplifies the brand new mobile variations and making them workable choices.
